Virus alert scam:
I have noticed a big surge in in scams where people phone you and say something like: “We have noticed on our systems that you have a virus on your computer...” then they try to convince you to do a few things and all of this lead to you buying stuff and giving them access to your PC.
Another one is a website popup and state something like “ ... you have a virus and you need to click here ...” .
DO NOT TRUST THEM. If you are behind a basic ADSL (broadband) router that is newer than 4 years then it is very difficult for people to “just see” what is on your PC. Hang up the phone or close the web page as they WILL try to get money from you or get you to install stuff and by doing any of these your PC will be compromised that could lead to identity theft, money theft and all sorts of bad stuff.
However if you are not sure contact us immediately and ask for advice, and if you have been a victim of this type of scam contact us immediately so we can work on getting you secure again.
FireFox 4:
In FF4 you might get this look:
And you might think: “Where is my File or Bookmark menu (Menu bar). All you have to do to get the menu bar back is to press and hold the “alt” key on your keyboard (usually next to the space bar) while you press the following sequence of keys “v” then “t” then “m” on your keyboard, you will then get the menu bar back.
SLOW PC – Windows XP:
We noticed in the last month that many of our clients came to us with the same complaint: “My PC seems to be very slow” on further investigation we found that 99% of these customers had the old Win XP on their PCs and RAM (short term memory) of about 512Mb or less. It seems that Microsoft fixed a problem in windows that now require your PC to have more RAM and now the RAM that you had is not enough any longer. The solution for this problem is to get more RAM or buy a new PC. A new PC will cost in the region of £350 and up but RAM only cost between £30 - £80 per 1000Mb (1Gb) dependent on brand and type and it is suggested that you need 2Gb for XP to run correctly, this will therefore cost you less than a new PC and save you the aggravation of learning a new Windows (Win7) and reloading all your favourite software.
DotMailer – Mail system and mail list:
Our mail list has now grown so much that we can not make use of Gmail any longer to send out our news letter, it has therefore been decided to send out the news letter from next month via a company called DotMailer. We hope you enjoy the news letter and we are open to any suggestions of topics you want us to investigate.
